Find Arts & Culture in Redding, California
The District's marketing and branding plan will cast vision and help to draw night-time activity, farmer's markets, concerts, events, arts training and enterprise to the Downtown core. These activities will assist in a walkable, bikeable environment. Wayfinding signage, bicycle paths and active store fronts will slow down traffic, which will help downtown businesses and increase pedestrian traffic.
It will increase overnight stays in Redding thus bumping up our Transient Occupancy Tax to local government and traffic to local business. It will also enhance our downtown residents' lives and well-being with anticipated redevelopment. Major music acts frequent Redding as an overnight on the way to the Bay Area or Los Angeles from Portland or Seattle. Our theater community is poised to become yet another theatrical attraction on I-5 as we are just two hours south of Ashland, Oregon, renowned for its Shakespeare Theater Festival and we have a vibrant local scene with world-class theater structures.
The District designation will assist with affordable housing for artists and creatives and induce further creation of affordable live-work spaces. Several low-income housing units exist and residents are looking forward to an improved life downtown, one that includes fresh food options, more to do after 6pm, a safer environment due to increased pedestrian traffic, improved infrastructure like lighting and sidewalks and attention to blight.
